The Pharmacy First scheme enables your local pharmacy to provide quick medical help for common ailments—no need to see a GP.

 

Simply contact or visit Rackheath Pharmacy, tell us about your condition, and receive medication promptly.

If you come to Rackheath Pharmacy with any of the covered conditions, our pharmacists will offer advice, treatment, or refer you to a GP or other healthcare professional if necessary.

This service helps reduce waiting times at GP clinics and surgeries while giving you direct access to medication and pharmaceutical care for these conditions.

A middle ear infection (Acute otitis media)

Acute otitis media is a middle ear infection that causes swelling, inflammation, and fluid buildup behind the eardrum. Through the Pharmacy First scheme, your local pharmacy can treat this condition in patients aged 1 to 17 years.

Impetigo

Impetigo is a highly contagious bacterial skin infection that causes blisters or sores, commonly appearing on the face. Through the Pharmacy First scheme, your local pharmacy can treat this condition in patients aged 1 year and older.

Insect bites are usually not serious and tend to heal within a few days. However, they can become infected, leading to pus in or around the bite area. Through the Pharmacy First scheme, your local pharmacy can treat infected insect bites in patients aged 1 year and over.

Shingles

Shingles is a viral infection that causes a painful rash, usually appearing as a single stripe of blisters wrapping around the torso. It is caused by the varicella-zoster virus (VZV), the same virus that causes chickenpox. Through the Pharmacy First scheme, your local pharmacy can treat shingles symptoms in patients aged 18 years and over.

Sinusitis

Sinusitis occurs when the sinuses become inflamed, causing pressure, pain, and congestion. It is usually caused by a viral infection, such as a cold, and typically improves within a few weeks, though it can sometimes become infected. Through the Pharmacy First scheme, your local pharmacy can treat sinusitis symptoms in patients aged 12 years and over.

Sore Throat

A sore throat is an irritated, often painful and scratchy sensation in the throat, usually worsened by swallowing. It is most commonly caused by viral infections such as a cold or flu, but can also result from bacteria, allergies, or other irritants. Through the Pharmacy First scheme, your local pharmacy can treat sore throat symptoms in patients aged 5 years and over.

Uncomplicated urinary tract infections (only) in women

Uncomplicated urinary tract infections (UTIs) are bacterial infections that occur in the bladder of healthy individuals without existing health conditions. They typically cause pain in the lower abdominal area and may result in traces of blood in the urine. Through the Pharmacy First scheme, your local pharmacy can treat these symptoms in women aged 16 to 64.
